Αλήθεια! Το μητρικό γάλα μπορεί να διατηρηθεί στο ψυγείο μέχρι 4 ημέρες χωρίς να χάσει τη διατροφική του αξία ή να δημιουργηθούν βακτήρια, σύμφωνα με έρευνα μικρής κλίμακας.Οι οδηγίες σχετικά με την ασφαλή διατήρηση του μητρικού γάλατος διαφέρουν. Ωστόσο, γενικά εκτιμάται ότι το γάλα μπορεί να διατηρηθεί στο ψυγείο, στους 4 βαθμούς, για διάστημα μέχρι 5 έως 8 ημέρες, αν και ιδανικά θα πρέπει να καταναλωθεί μέσα σε 2 έως 3 ημέρες.Ωστόσο, πολλές έρευνες σχετικά με τη διατήρηση του μητρικού γάλατος έχουν εστιάσει στον κίνδυνο συσσώρευσης βακτηρίων και όχι στη γενική ακεραιότητα του γάλατος, σύμφωνα με τον ερευνητή Dr. Richard J. Schanler και την ομάδα του, από το Πανεπιστημιακό Νοσοκομείο North Shore, στη Νέα Υόρκη.
Οι ερευνητές διατήρησαν δείγματα μητρικού γάλατος 36 μητέρων στο ψυγείο μιας εντατικής μονάδας νεογνών.
Το γάλα, που οι μητέρες συνέλεξαν με θήλαστρο περίπου ένα μήνα μετά τον τοκετό, διατηρήθηκε στους 4 βαθμούς Cκαι εξετάστηκε στις 24, 48, 72 και 96 ώρες.Κατά τη διάρκεια αυτή οι ερευνητές ανακάλυψαν είτε καθόλου είτε ελάχιστες αλλαγές στη σύνθεση του γάλατος-όπως επίπεδο βακτηρίων, οξύτητα, πρωτεΐνες ανοσοποιητικού από τη μητέρα και ωφέλιμα λιπαρά οξέα και πρωτεΐνες.Τα ευρήματα υποδεικνύουν ότι το φρέσκο μητρικό γάλα μπορεί να διατηρηθεί στο ψυγείο μέχρι 96 ώρες χωρίς να κινδυνεύσει η ακεραιότητά του, αναφέρουν ο Schanler και η ομάδα του στο περιοδικό ‘Journal of Pediatrics.’Αν και τα ευρήματα προέκυψαν από μονάδα εντατικής θεραπείας νεογνών ταιριάζουν με τις τυπικές συστάσεις για τη διατήρηση στο ψυγείο του σπιτιού του μητρικού γάλατος -ότι καλύτερο είναι να χρησιμοποιηθεί εντός λίγων ημερών, αν και λίγο μακρύτερο διάστημα μπορεί ενδεχομένως να είναι ασφαλές.Όσον αφορά την αποθήκευση στο σπίτι, ειδικοί συστήνουν γενικά τη χρήση καθαρών, στεγνών γυάλινων ή πλαστικών δοχείων, που δεν περιέχουν τη χημική ουσία βισφενόλη Α.Κάθε μπουκάλι θα πρέπει να έχει ετικέτα με ημερομηνία και να τοποθετείται στο πίσω μέρος ενός ψυγείου στους 4 βαθμούς C ή περισσότερο.

Εκστρατεία κατά του ροταϊού συνιστούν οι επιστήμονες Ροταϊός και εμβόλιο

Η καταπολέμηση του ροταϊού θα μπορούσε να γλυτώσει από το θάνατο εκατοντάδες χιλιάδες παιδιά, ειδικά στην Αφρική, όπως υπογραμμίζουν δύο νέες μελέτες που προτείνουν την πραγματοποίηση εκστρατείας εμβολιασμού στις φτωχότερες χώρες.
Ο ροταϊός ευθύνεται για σοβαρής μορφής διάρροια ανάμεσα σε παιδιά πολύ μικρής ηλικίας.Τα αποτελέσματα των εργασιών δημοσιεύονται στην αμερικανική ιατρική επιθεώρηση The New England Journal of Medicine. Δείχνουν ότι ο εμβολισμός μειώνει την θνησιμότητα των παιδιών κάτω των πέντε ετών κατά 61% στην Αφρική και κατά 35% στο Μεξικό.Από τον ροταϊό χάνουν τη ζωή τους περισσότερα από 500.000 παιδιά το χρόνο, τα μισά από αυτά στην Αφρική."Το εμβόλιο κατά των ροταϊών πρέπει να διανεμηθεί επειγόντως στις ζώνες μεγάλης θνησιμότητας και να χρησιμοποιηθεί για την ενίσχυση των προγραμμάτων ελέγχου της διάρροιας" επισημαίνει ο Δρ Ματουράμ Σαντοσάμ, καθηγητής της Παιδιατρικής στην Ιατρική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Τζον Χόπκινς της Βαλτιμόρης.Το εμβόλιο ονομάζεται Rotarix, κατασκευάστηκε από την βρετανική GlaxoSmithKline και χρησιμοποιήθηκε σε κλινικές δοκιμές της τρίτης φάσης στο Μαλάουι και στη Νότια Αφρική σε 4.000 παιδιά πολύ μικρής ηλικίας.Στο Μεξικό, το εμβόλιο κατά του ροταϊού, με την ονομασία RotaTeq, χρησιμοποιείται από το 2006. Ο εμβολιασμός μείωσε κατά 35% τους θανάτους ανάμεσα σε παιδιά μικρότερα των πέντε ετών και κατά 65% ανάμεσα σε παιδιά μικρότερα των δύο ετών.Οι κλινικές δοκιμές στην Αφρική συντονίστηκαν και συγχρηματοδοτήθηκαν από την συνεργασία της GlaxoSmithKline, του Παγκόσμιου Οργανισμού Υγείας και των Ομοσπονδιακών Κέντρων για την Πρόληψη και τον Έλεγχο των Ασθενειών.

Κυκλοφόρησε προ ημερών στη χώρα μας εμβόλιο κατά του ροταϊού (Rotarix). Περιέχει ανθρώπειο ζώντα εξασθενημένο ιό, είναι μονοδύναμο (στέλεχος G1 [P8], με διασταυρούμενη ανοσία προς άλλα στελέχη) και χορηγείται από το στόμα σε δύο δόσεις.

Ο 7χρονος Τσάρλι Σίμπσον θέλησε να μαζέψει χρήματα για τον έρανο της Unicef για την Αϊτή.
Το εγχείρημα απλό.
Θα διέσχιζε με το ποδήλατό του 5 μίλια για να συγκεντρώσει 500 λίρες.
Το ποσό όμως έφθασε τα 154.930 ευρώ και εκείνος κέρδισε μια επίσκεψη στην Ντάουνινγκ Στριτ.

I have just returned from Haiti, where I went to personally assess the situation on the ground, and to meet with those leading this incredible humanitarian relief operation. The depth of grief and the massive needs this earthquake has left in its wake were heart wrenching. Parts of the capital Port-au-Prince look worse than many war zones. What has unfolded is still an unbelievable reality for the people of Haiti.
This is the most complex relief operation the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) has ever launched. Haiti’s entire supply chain infrastructure has been devastated, and we have been faced with starting an operation from scratch. Our capacity to ramp up the operation is growing on a daily basis, and food is reaching people, even if we wish we could do more, quicker.
We have delivered nearly 10 million meals to people in the capital and outlying areas isolated by the earthquake. Our teams are pushing out food supplies as fast as we can to the worst affected people through five land, sea and air corridors, giving top priority to the most vulnerable, especially women and children.
None of us can count the human cost of this disaster, but generous action can help alleviate the suffering. For WFP to do its work, we’ll need support from people like you for many months to come, and will look to world leaders to assist Haiti at a level that no one had initially anticipated. Thank you for stepping forward so generously already - the people of Haiti need your continued support now more than ever.

Las Troyanas y el grupo de teatro de Loizidis forman parte de la celebración oficial del Bicentenario de la Independencia de Chile.
En los actos de celebración de los 200 años de la Independencia de Chile, estará incluida en mayo de 2010, la puesta en escena de la obra de teatro antiguo, de Euripides, Las Troyanas (Las mujeres de Troya) que representará la compañía ateniense de teatro “Grupo Leonidas Loizidis”.
El productor y director Loizidis fue invitado por el gobierno de Chile de manera que el Grupo de Teatro Loizidis participará en el programa de actos culturales del Bicenterio, en calidad de huésped de este país de América Latina.
Antes de participar en los festejos de Chile, el grupo representará, asimismo, Las Troyanas, en Ciudad de México, invitado por la Comunidad Helénica de la Capital Federal.
“Nos sentimos honrados de haber sido invitados a México por el señor Constantino Galanis, connotado miembro de la Comunidad Helénica y el Teatro de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, como también a Chile por su Gobierno, con el apoyo de la distinguida Embajadora de Grecia en Chile Chryssoula Karykopoulou y del diligente Coordinador del SAE para América Latina, Nikiforos Nicolaides”. El sr. Loizidis agregó que “Otros países de América Latina han expresado su interés, en principio, en acoger las Troyanas o la Orestiada.”
El grupo de teatro Loizidis completó en otoño del 2009 una gira de dos meses por América del Norte, presentando “Las Troyanas” en 25 ciudades de los Estados Unidos y Vancouver de Canadá. Para el año 2010 ha programado una gira similar con la única trilogía del teatro de Grecia antigua, la Orestiada de Esquilo.

Government now jails, dumbs down, and brainwashes your children for sixteen years! It wasn't always this way. The United States was founded, formed and grew to international prominence and prestige without compulsory schooling and with virtually no government involvement in schooling. Before the advent of government-controlled schools, literacy was high (91-97% in the North, 81% in the South), private and community schools proliferated, and people cared about education and acted on their desire to learn and have their children learn.Venitist Matthew Brouillette, President of the Commonwealth Foundation in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and former Director of Education Policy for the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, points out that from the outset of the first settlements in the New World, Americans founded and successfully maintained a decentralized network of schools up through the 1850s. For the first 150 years of America's settlement and the first 50 to 75 years of the nation's existence, government schooling as it is known today did not exist.Today, few people ask how Americans, without the help of government education, came to tame an unsettled continent and eventually establish the freest nation in history. Early America was arguably the freest civil society that has ever existed. This freedom extended to education, which meant that parents were responsible for, and had complete control of, their children's schooling. There were no accrediting agencies, no regulatory boards, and no teacher certification requirements. Parents could choose whatever kind of school or education they wanted for their children, and no one was forced to pay for education they did not use or approve of.Americans were as innovative about education as they were about everything else. They started private schools, hired tutors, taught their children at home, taught themselves. As the country grew, private schooling of many varieties grew and complemented the many other options.But there were always the pseudoreformers, the people who thought they knew better than everyone else and felt they had the right to force their views on others — by law, if no one would cooperate otherwise. Public education today is a product of more than a century of pseudoreform and revision. In each era, socialist individuals have taken the lead and transformed the system to meet their statist ideals.One of these socialists was Horace Mann, a lawyer from Massachusetts. He's often referred to as the father of public education because he was such a fervent pseudoreformer, but there were others before and after him. Mann's hometown of Boston was a city of many private schools in the early and mid 1800s, with attendance reported at 96% by a committee commissioned to study the issue. But high attendance was not the goal of school reformers. Horace Mann helped establish a board of education in 1837, and by 1852, he had his compulsory schools and state schools from elementary through high school.Power is tempting and many pseudoreformers and kleptocrats fell to its lure. One state after another tightened its grip on American education. Parents who refused to comply sometimes found themselves at the sharp end of state militia bayonets. Once the state grabs power in a particular area, it is only natural that unless people fight back the power will grow and freedom will slowly die. That's where we stand today.Albert Shanker, former president of the American Federation of Teachers, confesses that it's time to admit that public education operates like a planned economy, a bureaucratic system in which everybody's role is spelled out in advance and there are few incentives for innovation and productivity. It's no surprise that our school system doesn't improve; it more resembles the communist economy than our own market economy.But Americans have not surrendered their freedom altogether. 27,000 private schools serve over six million students in America. Nearly two million students are home schooled. Tutoring services and learning centers number in the thousands. Community groups, churches and charities offer free tutoring. Parents pool their resources to run summer schools and special classes for their children.Much more could be done if parents and students were not trapped in the web of government schooling. As it is, many parents are actually afraid to step into independence. Some are afraid because schools threaten or intimidate them. Some are afraid of the financial responsibility. Many simply are unaware of all the opportunities and possibilities available.It is a venitist goal to not only explain why government involvement in schooling is detrimental to students, families, society, and liberty, but to fight with ideas and resources to aid their path to independence and liberate their kids from the yoke of kleptocracy. Basil Venitis asserts there is no direct relationship between education and schooling. You might be schooled but uneducated, and you might be educated but unschooled. Schools are concentration camps for the drones of society. Unschooling is much better than schooling. Internet is the best source of knowledge and information, replacing schools, libraries, media, parliaments, and postoffice.

The burqa and the niqab have no place in Danish society. They symbolise a view of women and humanity that we totally oppose and that we want to combat in Danish society. Denmark is an open, democratic society where we look at the person to whom we are talking, whether it's in a classroom or on the job. That is why we don't want to see this garment in Danish society.In Oregon, USA, a public enquiry is examining the current law that says teachers wearing turbans, head scarves or any kind of religious dress are banned from teaching in the state's public schools. The law banning such attire dates back to the 1920s, when the Ku Klux Klan influenced local lawmakers to pass the law prohibiting Oregon teachers from wearing such displays of religion in the classroom.The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston banned face coverings last year. He said the two female Muslim students on the campus who might be affected did not mind having the photo for the ID taken.
